Review of Part I: Exploring and Understanding Data
Following Chapter 6 is a "Quick Review" of the material covered in Part I (Chapters 1–6) of the textbook. This is a nice overview of some of the "big ideas" we've encountered so far. You may want to look at this now, and then again when reviewing for the first midterm exam.
Next you'll find 40 exercises covering various topics from the first six chapters. These often combine material from more than one chapter, which you may find especially valuable when reviewing for the first midterm, as questions on the exam may do this as well.
Homework
No particular exercises are assigned from this review section. You may choose to work some now, and more later as you prepare for the midterm. As with the other problem sets, you may choose an even-numbered exercise and post a solution in the Part I Review Forum; you may elect to do this now, or wait until reviewing for the midterm.
Errata
In the answer for exercise #1 in the back of the book, the label on the vertical axis of the histogram should be: # of bananas markets
In the histogram for exercise #6, the second labeled value on the horizontal axis should be 120 (not 129).
Although exercise #22 has a T symbol indicating that the data set for this problem is included on the CD, the file was omitted from the CD accompanying the 2nd edition of the textbook and from the textbook's Web site. It was included on the 1st edition CD, so I've uploaded it and you can download it by right-clicking this link.
